FAQs

Who is eligible to enter the EPpy Awards?
The EPpy Awards welcome all media and media-affiliated Web sites to enter the program, as well as College Newspapers in that specific category only.

How are the EPpy Awards judged?
About 40 industry experts and media specialists from the business and academic sectors judge the EPpy entries. The judging occurs in a Web application designed specifically for the EPpy Awards by Interactive Media Associates, the awards administrator. Categories are judged on criteria such as design, ease of use, comprehensiveness and timeliness, with special attention to each entrant’s value added through the unique attributes of interactivity.

In the “Best Special Feature” category, what is the difference between a News or Event entry and an Enterprise entry?
The Best Special Feature category was split several years ago to acknowledge the difference between features focused on News or an Event (the war in Iraq or the US Open Golf Tournament) with those that are more trend oriented (the looming healthcare crisis or global warming). It was a way to segment one of the EPpy’s most popular categories, and to judge entries more fairly against like competition.

Can vendors enter the EPpy Awards?
Although anyone can make (and pay for) a nomination, the EPpy Awards are designed to honor media companies, not vendors such as software providers, ASPs, etc., who serve multiple media outlets.

How many companies enter the EPpy Awards?
In a typical year, there are more than 400 entries representing more than 150 Web sites. Some of the most ambitious Web sites submit several EPpy entries in various categories.

When are finalists announced?
Finalists for the 2008 contest will be announced in May, 2008.

When are the winners announced?
Winners of the 2008 EPpy Awards contest will be announced at the EPpy Awards Luncheon at the Interactive Media Conference and Trade Show on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Rio in Las Vegas.

The awards are sponsored by Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek.
